It indicated that nearly 70 percent of tourists traveled over

d overseas to see wildlife at least twice a year. Asia, Africa and Europe are the top three destinations.

About 60 percent of interviewees said they would refuse to take part in tours that migh

t interrupt the normal life of animals in the wild or be harmful to them, even if such a tour might be exclusive.

More than 70 percent of tourists said they are glad to choose tours wit

h higher prices and which take more time in order to be more in touch with the wildlife.

“Wildlife watching has attracted millions of tourists annually and many travelers are driven by the affection of animals. Ho

wever, some activities on such tours have had an adverse impact on the wildlife,” Zhao said.

He said hundreds of thousands of wild animals across the world are taken away from natural habitats, forced into cap

tivity and subjected to abuse, both mentally and physically, in the name of entertainment and profit.

Guests share thoughts on president’s speech

What impressed me most is that President Xi highlighted the importance of sustainable d

evelopment. The hosting of the Horticultural Expo is the best chance to raise people’s attention to the conce

pt of sustainability, both in China and around the world.President Xi outlined his commitment to open and gre

en development as well as underlined China’s dedication to conserving the ecosystem now and for generations to come.

Xi’s call for countries to work together for the common goal o

f improving the global ecosystem aligns well with the Paris Agreement. This is an excellent foll

ow-on from the commitment outlined in the communique from the Belt and Road Forum.

In this communique, to which the UAE is a signatory, countries ag

reed that cooperation will be open and clean, with green development promoted.

The expo attracted widespread global participation, and I think everybody will recog

nize China’s vision in green development and its resolve to build a green future.

On the importance of record covers, Yang sees eye to

o eye with his fan.”I buy a lot of albums, and it is the design of the covers that catches my eye first,” Yang

tells the fan. “Apart from the quality of the sound on the record, these things are pieces of art.”

In the two-hour meeting, they listen to the new vinyl and talk about their affection for physical records.

“I recall the summer of 1993 when I was 20 years old,” Yang says. “I bou

For Wang Zhuohui, owner of Free Sound, Yang’s arrival is one of a series of events to celebrate Record Store Day.

Wang’s shop does its bit for Record Store Day by staging live performances, fan meetings and ex

Shanghai aims to rev up car sales with trade-in subsidies

The city of Shanghai has become the first local government to answer the call of the central gove

rnment to promote automobile consumption by providing subsidies, since 10 mi

nistries and commissions of the country released six major methods of promoting car sales in January.

The official WeChat account of the Shanghai Municipal Government announced yesterday it will launch a car trade-i

n program, encouraging car owners to trade in their vehicles for new gas-powered cars complying with State-VI emi

ssions standards or new energy vehicles, according to a report by the 21st Century Business Herald.

The government will provide a subsidy of 10,000 yuan ($1,489) for a trade-in gas-powered

vehicle and 15,000 yuan for a trade-in new energy vehicle, the announcement said.

China’s automobile market saw a sales decline in 2018 for the first time

in 28 years, with passenger vehicle sales slumping for 10 consecutive months from last y

ear to March, according to the China Passenger Car Association. As the central government halved subsidies for new energy

vehicles this year, the promotion of car consumption depends more on local governments and enterprises.
